Battle for the Eel Meal

This was a very cool sequence of photos, taken in Richard W. DeKorte Park in Lyndhurst/North Arlington, NJ. The photos were taken during a light snow, just before the blizzard on February 22, 2026. I was quite far away. The camera had difficulties focusing through the snow. So, the quality isn’t what I would hope for, but the subject matter is wild!!!!

I saw a couple of birds in the distance, lifted my camera and got them in sight. I couldn’t believe a Common Merganser was trying to swallow an eel, which was clearly larger than it’s entire digestive tract. A couple of Herring Gulls came to try to take the eel away.

Though I offer printed versions of my photography, there are some which I don’t recommend due to the lack of quality. The photos in this series are not recommended for print.
